Vanessa L. Vela, M.D.

I truly love what I do for a living. My passion for my career can be seen as I smile while giving an enduring “you did the right thing” or “you should think twice before doing what you want to do”. When I made the decision to pursue child and adult psychiatry, I wanted to help children and adults who feel that “things are no longer good” or when parent gets the lingering feeling that “something is not right”. Whether it is short-term issues, like a divorce or mild depression/anxiety, or long term concerns, such as autism, severe depression, bipolar, severe anxiety, or learning troubles. My passion is to identify the problems and go about restoring the person back to baseline (before thing got out of sorts). I am strongly committed to working with other health professionals in the management and treatment of patients with regard to family dynamics, personal growth, peer relations, and at school or in the workplace. My overall goal is to provide my patients with the professional assistance and genuine care that will allow them to overcome the behavioral health issues that manifest in their everyday lives.

I received a B.A. from Trinity University in 1994 then pursued medical training at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB). Following my medical studies, I entered residency, for adult training as well as child and adolescent training at UTMB. I studied under the mentorship of Dr. Karen Wagner, a leading expert in the management and treatment of bipolar disorder in children and adolescents.

For the last five years, I have served Bexar County. I have treated children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism. Additionally, I have treated children from juvenile probation and children with mental illness who also faced the life struggle of poverty. In this time, I have seen a wide spectrum of mental illness from traumatic abuse to severe mental illness. With this professional experience teamed with my personal insights and strong educational foundation, I set forth to practice psychiatry in my home town, Boerne, Texas.

AT THIS TIME, THE ONLY NEW PATIENTS I AM ACCEPTING ARE THOSE WHO PAY PRIVATELY.

I can assure you that patients will be provided the respect and confidence required for their overall well-being.

Please give us a call if you have any questions.

Independent Practitioner

Isaac G. Martinez, Ph.D., LP

I am a licensed psychologist who resides in the Texas Hill Country and my practice is located in Boerne, Texas. I am committed to helping our local community individuals and families through my training and experiences in Clinical Psychology. I work with adults, families, adolescents and children. I have been blessed with the opportunity to provide assistance to those who seek the peace and happiness we all strive for. I am passionate about my work and look forward to helping both kids and adults in getting the most out of their lives.

My approach to therapy is based in evidence-based practices, although they are tailored to fit the individual needs and resources of my clients. I utilize a cognitive-behavioral foundation firmly rooted in Social Learning and Humanistic approaches to therapy. I am attentive to how our early experiences and unforeseen events in our lives may present challenges and difficulties. I believe that a therapeutic environment needs to be judgment-free, safe, supportive, and geared toward the specific needs of each of my clients.

Adults: I believe that as we grow in age, life tends to present us with constant challenges, stressful events and in some cases, trauma. I also believe that life is also filled with the beauty that surrounds us. Anxiety and depression tend to be frequent causes of significant discomfort in life and I have extensive training and experience in this area of clinical practice. I also serve those who have experienced traumatic events, long-standing untreated psychological issues, chronic mental illness and family and relationship issues. I view the therapeutic relationship to be a confidential and collegial relationship whereas the client and therapist work together toward a common goal.

Families: Our families and caregivers have taught us ways to parent and every other important aspect of our lives. These relationships are crucial in shaping who we are and how we interact with significant others in our later lives and how we raise our children. I provide Family therapy and strong family involvement is something I require in working with my child and adolescent clients. My approach to family therapy involves creating better communication between family members and helping the family identify their strengths and goals.

Adolescents/Young Adults: I feel fortunate to have the training and experience in working with adolescents and young adults. I understand that this period of our lives is constantly changing, involves identifying with others, and is the foundation for our later relationships with others. I also believe that young people need to be encouraged, supported and learn that they have the ability to make changes, handle difficult situations and can improve their peer and familial relationships. The adolescent and young adult period is known as a time of important decision-making and my work is aimed at helping adolescents and young adults achieve balance and consistency in their lives. Having a neutral third party to talk with, a safe environment and respect for the client and family are important aspects of therapy. My experiences in this area includes developing individualized goals for each client, suicide prevention and helping my clients avoid legal entanglements and substance abuse.

My experiences working with young people has revolved around anger management, emotional dyscontrol, anxiety, self-esteem building, working through abuse issues, psychosis, depression, decision-making and goal setting.

I am currently accepting private pay, BlueCross BlueShield of TX PPO, and Beacon Health Options (formerlly known as Value Options).

I DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICARE OR MEDICAID.

Please give us a call if you have any questions.
